In this episode, a conversation with Dr. Bart Ehrman about his How Jesus Became God, and the evangelical response book How God Became Jesus.
Dr. Ehrman has given other interviews in which he gives an overview of his project in the book. So skipping that, we jump right into some of his more controversial conclusions, and how he arrived at them.
We also discuss the currently popular “christology of divine identity,” and the evangelical response book mentioned above.

Thanks for the comments, David. Thanks for letting me know about that problem – I’ve fixed it now.
Why didn’t Ehrman address Bauckham? I have only a sociological guess. Ehrman doesn’t run in evangelical circles, and dosen’t realize how much evangelicals have rallied around Bauckham’s ideas. In skeptical “historical Jesus” circles, I would think that Bauckham is not so much on the radar.
He really didn’t engage with any apologists either. I don’t think he takes them seriously. I understand this in some cases, but disagree in others.

But WHY didn’t Ehrman deal with Bauckham in his book? Why didn’t he deal with this ‘early high Christology’ argument? Why didn’t he discuss 1 Cor 8:6?
If ‘belonging to the identity of God’ is such a slippery concept, as you guys agreed, why didn’t Ehrman call Bauckham out on it, in his book? The ‘God Became Jesus’ authors, or at least Tilling, seem to have made capital about this, saying that Ehrman does not deal with Paul properly and is ignorant of this ‘early high Christology’.
