He taught for many years at Fordham University in New York City\u00a0before moving to Oxford. Dr. <span class=\"contentMatch\">Leftow<\/span> has written over 90 professional articles and book chapters on metaphysics, medieval philosophy, and philosophical theology.<\/p>\n<p>In this <strong>wide-ranging interview, we discuss<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>his Jewish upbringing in Brooklyn<\/li>\n<li>his conversion<\/li>\n<li>his views on the roles that reason can play in the spiritual lives of Christians<\/li>\n<li>why he believes in God<\/li>\n<li>what would make him quit believing in Christianity<\/li>\n<li>whether he would still believe in God were he to cease believing in Christianity<\/li>\n<li>why he is drawn to medieval philosophy<\/li>\n<li>how recent militant secularized philosophy is untraditional<\/li>\n<li>whether medieval philosophy is fundamentally &#8220;backward-looking.&#8221;<\/li>\n<li>the odd estrangement between most recent academic theology from analytic philosophy, and\u00a0what this has to do with the work of the famous early modern philosopher <a href=\"http:\/\/plato.stanford.edu\/entries\/kant\/\" target=\"_blank\">Immanuel Kant (1724-1804)<\/a>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>We end with his <strong>metaphor\u00a0of humans as mirrors of God<\/strong>, how even a philosophy professor can reflect the character of God, and how philosophers are like <strong>friendly piranhas<\/strong>\u00a0or\u00a0maggots.
