{"id":40971,"date":"2019-01-14T11:01:02","date_gmt":"2019-01-14T16:01:02","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/trinities.org\/blog\/?p=40971"},"modified":"2019-01-14T11:13:17","modified_gmt":"2019-01-14T16:13:17","slug":"a-tale-of-two-dads","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/trinities.org\/blog\/a-tale-of-two-dads\/","title":{"rendered":"a tale of two &#8220;dads&#8221;"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Mikey and Del were wrapping up a hard morning of playing with Legos. &#8220;<strong>Dad<\/strong>,&#8221; yelled Del, &#8220;is it time for lunch?&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"> Del&#8217;s dad poked his head into the bedroom doorway. &#8220;I don&#8217;t know, son. I think <strong>Dad <\/strong>was thinking about grilling some burgers this afternoon.&#8221; <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Del&#8217;s dad was referring to Del&#8217;s grandpa. You see, the men in Del&#8217;s family had an interesting habit: <strong>the fathers there preferred to go by &#8220;Dad.&#8221; <\/strong>Their wives called them this, their kids called them this, and their other relatives did too. So Del called both his father and his grandfather &#8220;Dad.&#8221; Occasionally this led to confusion, but generally the context made it clear who he meant. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"alignleft is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/trinities.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/two-dads.jpg\" alt=\"two dads and their baby\" class=\"wp-image-40973\" width=\"334\" height=\"244\"\/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">After lunch,<strong> Mikey went home and told everyone who would listen that &#8220;Del has two dads.&#8221;<\/strong> He couldn&#8217;t figure out why Del and his family were irritated by this.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Eventually, Del&#8217;s mom, who was a junior high English teacher, called Mikey&#8217;s mom and asked her to explain to Mikey <strong>the difference between two dads and two &#8220;dads&#8221; <\/strong>(two who are called &#8220;dad&#8221;).
