{"id":41057,"date":"2019-02-26T23:48:38","date_gmt":"2019-02-27T04:48:38","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/trinities.org\/blog\/?p=41057"},"modified":"2019-10-27T09:58:07","modified_gmt":"2019-10-27T14:58:07","slug":"three-recent-whistleblowers","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/trinities.org\/blog\/three-recent-whistleblowers\/","title":{"rendered":"Three recent whistleblowers"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">By a &#8220;<strong>whistleblower<\/strong>&#8221; I mean someone raised in and long faithful to mainstream evangelicalism who to their surprise found that the Bible neither teaches that God is triune nor that Jesus is divine in the way the one God is divine. Instead of conforming to traditional creedal demands they now disagree with, they speak up, suffering significant social and sometimes also financial costs. They value fidelity to scripture more than their own status.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"alignright is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/trinities.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/whistle-2475470_640.jpg\" alt=\"a whistle\" class=\"wp-image-41059\" width=\"374\" height=\"249\" srcset=\"https:\/\/trinities.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/whistle-2475470_640.jpg 640w, https:\/\/trinities.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/whistle-2475470_640-450x300.jpg 450w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 374px) 100vw, 374px\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Whistleblower #1: Bill Schlegel<\/strong> is the author of <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"this fine book (opens in a new tab)\" href=\"https:\/\/www.amazon.com\/Satellite-Bible-William-Schlegel-2013-05-03\/dp\/B01F9QA5IQ\/ref=sr_1_fkmrnull_1?crid=3INIOG66208QJ&amp;keywords=satellite+bible+atlas%2C+by+william+schlegel&amp;qid=1551239715&amp;s=gateway&amp;sprefix=schlegel+bible+%2Caps%2C-1&amp;sr=8-1-fkmrnull\" target=\"_blank\">this fine book<\/a>. After candidly yet quietly confessing his biblical unitarian convictions he was basically forced out as a professor at the Master&#8217;s University extension in Israel, where he taught Hebrew and biblical geography. He tells the story <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"here (opens in a new tab)\" href=\"https:\/\/restitutio.org\/2018\/04\/05\/interview-31-masters-seminary-prof-finds-son-of-god-loses-job-bill-schlegel\/\" target=\"_blank\">here<\/a>. And here is <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"a brief post (opens in a new tab)\" href=\"http:\/\/landandbible.blogspot.com\/search?updated-max=2018-04-18T05:07:00-07:00&amp;max-results=7\" target=\"_blank\">a brief post<\/a> to friends, students, and former students and colleagues about the big change. In part he writes,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p>I can assure friends and former students that I have not &#8220;rejected our Lord&#8221;. My faith in God the Father and in His Son Jesus the Messiah is as strong, yea verily, stronger than it has ever been.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Now he&#8217;s lending his best efforts to support this issue of ongoing reformation. An evangelical who has long been interested in apologetics, he earned a<strong> Masters degree in Christian Apologetics from Southern Evangelical Seminary.<\/strong> I&#8217;m happy to say that he has been a long-time listener of the trinities podcast, and he&#8217;s also been active in the Facebook group. (opens in a new tab)\" href=\"https:\/\/trinities.org\/blog\/podcast-254-aaron-shelenberger-from-trinitarian-to-unitarian-part-1\/\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>Update: much more here.<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Whistleblower #3 is Seth Moore<\/strong>, who resigned from his job at Answers in Genesis. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p> I was raised in the Christian Church nondenomination, I joined a  fundamentalist Bible Church in high school, I attended a conservative  Presbyterian Church in college, and I landed at a Southern Baptist  Church out here in Kentucky. <\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">But his study of scripture forced him to make a change:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Answers in Genesis, like nearly all faith-based organizations, requires  its members to affirm a certain set of doctrines outlined in their  Statement of Faith. There is a degree of flexibility on most points, but  I cannot rationalize my perspectives to align with what they require all employees to affirm&#8230;  there are two doctrines in particular that I cannot convince myself to affirm&#8230;  The more I dug into Scripture, the harder it was to reconcile what I was reading to my orthodox upbringing. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"Read the whole thing here. (opens in a new tab)\" href=\"https:\/\/www.afterthineownheart.com\/2019\/02\/why-i-left-answers-in-genesis.html?fbclid=IwAR0zqedOkTLTKg3Y8OygyCD8cKyGDImN9RTjnxew7weQM3OdEWvdmcXwVxU\" target=\"_blank\">Read the whole thing here.<\/a> I don&#8217;t agree with 100% of what he says, but I think he makes <strong>a lot of excellent points and correctly points out many plain and clear biblical texts<\/strong> that are, frankly, clearer than anything trinitarians can appeal to. Would you walk away from a job or a career based on your convictions about biblical teaching? Are you willing to be kicked out of a church? Lose a boyfriend or girlfriend? Become uncool in certain circles, even Christian ones?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We need more whistleblowers.
