We hear about his interesting  spiritual journey, from a brush with the faith movement, to atheism, to Buddhism, to Calvinism, to a flirtation with Eastern Orthodoxy. And since his high-school years he&#8217;s been diligently reading these early Christian authors and with their help rethinking his understanding of biblical theology and christology. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He observes, <\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p>I think that most modern trinitarianism is fundamentally modalistic&#8230; the <strong>conception of the Trinity for most people<\/strong>, I think, is that God is one person who somehow is Father, Son, and Spirit, whether that&#8217;s manifesting himself as Father, Son, and Spirit, whether it&#8217;s eternally existing as those three, or they&#8217;re three names for the one person&#8230;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Notice that his point is about how recent trinitarians think, <em>not <\/em>about what they say. In my view he&#8217;s right, and <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"not only about ordinary Christians (opens in a new tab)\" href=\"https:\/\/trinities.org\/blog\/brown-vs-white-on-the-trinity\/\" target=\"_blank\">not only about ordinary Christians<\/a>. He&#8217;s saying that most are what I call &#8220;one-self&#8221; trinitarians, thought not necessarily of the <a href=\"https:\/\/plato.stanford.edu\/entries\/trinity\/#OneSel\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"high-falutin' philosophical sort (opens in a new tab)\">high-falutin&#8217; philosophical sort<\/a>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He talks about &#8220;blasphemy against the Holy Spirit,&#8221; <strong>his experience as a theology-exploring student at <\/strong><a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.masters.edu\/\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>The Master&#8217;s University<\/strong><\/a>, how his reading of patristic literature affected how he thinks about &#8220;<strong>modalism<\/strong>,&#8221;
