Our friend the Tentative Apologist <strong><a title=\"Randal Rauser's blog\" href=\"http:\/\/randalrauser.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Randal Rauser<\/a><\/strong> has a <a title=\"Rauser Podcast post\" href=\"http:\/\/randalrauser.com\/2013\/06\/the-tentative-apologist-podcast-is-now-available-on-itunes\/\" target=\"_blank\">podcast<\/a> (<a title=\"the Tentative Apologist podcast\" href=\"https:\/\/itunes.apple.com\/sr\/podcast\/the-tentative-apologist\/id663528223\" target=\"_blank\">itunes<\/a>) now, and he&#8217;s done a substantial, <a title=\"Rauser's essay, &quot;Theology as a Bull Session&quot;\" href=\"http:\/\/www.oxfordscholarship.com\/view\/10.1093\/acprof:oso\/9780199203567.001.0001\/acprof-9780199203567-chapter-4\" target=\"_blank\">no-bs<\/a> interview of leading Reformed analytic theologian <a title=\"Oliver Crisp academic home page\" href=\"http:\/\/stage.fuller.edu\/Academics\/Faculty\/Faculty-Members\/Crisp,-Oliver-D-.aspx\" target=\"_blank\">Oliver Crisp<\/a>, of Fuller Seminary.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Listen to it at Randal&#8217;s blog <a title=\"Randal Rauser interviews Oliver Crisp\" href=\"http:\/\/randalrauser.com\/2013\/07\/a-conversation-on-the-incarnate-god-with-theologian-oliver-crisp\/\" target=\"_blank\">here<\/a>.<a href=\"http:\/\/trinities.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/no-bull.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-5083\" src=\"http:\/\/trinities.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/no-bull.jpg\" alt=\"no bull\" width=\"300\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/trinities.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/no-bull.jpg 300w, https:\/\/trinities.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/no-bull-150x150.jpg 150w, https:\/\/trinities.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/no-bull-90x90.jpg 90w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Crisp does a good job presenting and giving a basic defense of the coherence of the<strong> traditional catholic Incarnation theory<\/strong>, as articulated by recent philosophers like Richard Swinburne. He avoids as much as possible technical lingo like &#8220;hypostatic union&#8221; and &#8220;suppositum.&#8221; He takes what is standardly call the &#8220;two minds&#8221; approach.<\/p>\n<p>Rauser asks him some <strong>tough questions<\/strong>, including, wasn&#8217;t Jesus ignorant of some truths (so, he can&#8217;t be God, who knows all), and isn&#8217;t it wrong to say (as the catholic tradition requires) that Jesus was &#8220;man&#8221; but not a man, or in other words, that that Jesus is self, and human, but not a human self? And, shouldn&#8217;t we assume that Jesus, as a 1st c. Jewish boy, had quite a few false beliefs, like, ones that were assumed in that day?<\/p>\n<p>Give it a listen, and comment on the blog post page there. <strong>Do you find Crisp&#8217;s answers compelling?<\/strong> Why or why not?<\/p>\n<p>Rauser doesn&#8217;t tip his hand much (which is OK &#8211; he&#8217;s the interview<em>er<\/em>) &#8211; but I would guess he would take a pretty strong mysterian line, perhaps even eschewing a lot of the traditional language.<\/p>\n<p>I say Boo to mysterianism (sorry Randal), but Hooray to honest, clear, to the point theological conversation!
