(<a title=\"1 Corinthians 8, NRSV\" href=\"http:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=1%20cor%208&amp;version=NRSV\" target=\"_blank\">1 Corinthians 8:6<\/a>)<\/p>\n<p>Is this passage a radical transformation of, or a <strong>redefinition of Jewish monotheism?<\/strong> Is it an insertion of Jesus into the <a title=\"Deuteronomy 6:4\" href=\"http:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=deut%206:4&amp;version=NRSV\" target=\"_blank\">Shema<\/a> confession, that &#8220;The LORD is our God, the LORD alone&#8221;? In this way, is Paul saying that Jesus is <strong>God himself<\/strong>, Yahweh, or that he is &#8220;in the divine identity,&#8221; or at any rate that Jesus is <strong>divine<\/strong>? Is there, in short, some trinitarian <strong>juice<\/strong> that can be squeezed from this orange?<\/p>\n<p>Unitarian Christians don&#8217;t think so. In fact, this is one of their favorite verses, even suitable for a <a title=\"One God and One Lord\" href=\"http:\/\/astore.amazon.com\/trinities-20\/detail\/0962897140\" target=\"_blank\">book title<\/a>. <em>Why<\/em>?<\/p>\n<p>Clearly, at least one side here is quite <strong>mistaken<\/strong>.
