He defined the<strong> concept of God<\/strong> as &#8220;that than which no greater can be thought.&#8221; Using this concept, he argues that there must actually be such a being; this is his famous &#8220;ontological&#8221; argument for God&#8217;s existence. And he also deduces that this being must be eternal, and omnipotent (etc.) &#8211; otherwise, he would <em>not<\/em> be that than which no greater can be thought. Present-day philosophers call this sort of reasoning <strong>&#8220;perfect being theology.&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>But what is the key concept?<\/strong> Is it the concept of the greatest being there could possibly be? Or should we argue from the concept of an absolutely perfect being? Or should we start with the concept of a being who is truly worthy of human worship?<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft wp-image-6746\" src=\"http:\/\/trinities.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/mark-c-murphy.jpg\" alt=\"mark c murphy\" width=\"205\" height=\"287\" srcset=\"https:\/\/trinities.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/mark-c-murphy.jpg 243w, https:\/\/trinities.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/mark-c-murphy-214x300.jpg 214w, https:\/\/trinities.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/mark-c-murphy-90x126.jpg 90w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 205px) 100vw, 205px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>In this episode,<strong> Dr. Mark C.
