podcast 296 – Assessing Craig’s “Trinity Monotheism” – with Dale Glover – Part 1

Notoriously, Dr. William Lane Craig compares the Trinity to the mythical three-headed dog Cerberus from Greek mythology – shown here as Hercules is about to club him. (Or: club them?)

But that analogy is not really the heart of his model of the Trinity, which he calls “Trinity monotheism.”

On this theory, God is one “soul” which somehow supports three “centers of consciousness” by having three sets of mental and volitional faculties. This is called “Trinity monotheism” because on this theology, only the Trinity is divine in the way the one God is divine – none of the “Persons” is. Each person is “divine” in being a part of something which is literally and fully divine – God.

Canadian apologist Dale Glover, who is sympathetic to Craig’s Trinity theory, invited me on to his podcast to discuss the merits of Dr. Craig’s “Trinity monotheism.” In this first part of our conversation, I first describe some positive features of Craig’s work on the Trinity, and then I give a few biblical, historical, and philosophical objections to this unique theory.
