so you’ve discovered podcasts

serial podcast - theologyLike millions of others, you’ve discovered the true-crime podcast Serial. And now you realize that you’ve been missing out on a whole universe of high-quality media which is more convenient than radio, television, or web surfing. Welcome to the revolution!

At the beginning, podcasts were all done by geeks with cheap microphones. The domain is now being dominated by big media players; Serial, for instance, has heretofore been produced by people associated with National Public Radio, specifically, with the This American Life radio show / podcast.

At the same time, the geeks are upping their game. The trinities podcast doesn’t sound too bad, though it lacks all the fancy production which would be produced by an NPR style team of people. It’s all produced by yours truly, on a shoestring budget. What countless people have discovered is that production only needs to be so good; it is content that matters.

And it’s the availability of free, high-quality content that is the power of the podcasting medium. And it’s content you can listen to while driving in your car, folding your laundry, or going for a walk, thanks to your smartphone. And once you subscribe, there is basically no effort involved in getting new episodes.

The #1 and #2 ways that people get podcasts are through itunes (on your iphone or using their free program for Apple or Windows computers) and the website / smart phone application Stitcher. Not being an iphone guy, I use this Android app: Podcast Republic. Currently, the #1 way people discover podcasts is by the itunes store. So if you’d like to see the trinities podcast show up in the Christianity section, and not just Joel Osteen and Joyce Meyer, then please subscribe and rate us in itunes.

So, are there any good theology, philosophy of religion, philosophy, religious studies, or apologetics podcasts? Yes! Here below a few which I listen to fairly regularly.

Please add your links and recommendations in the comments below. What are your favorite podcasts in these areas? (I notice that I haven’t yet found one I really like for academic, non-analytic theology… have you?)

Want to join the revolution? I recommend the multi-talented and hard-working Daniel J. Lewis’s The Audacity to Podcast.

  1. Hi Dale
I have found the B.B.C. production ‘Beyond Belief’ to be extremely useful when considering matters of a spiritual nature .

LIke most people I don’t have a great deal of time to spend on research – and I must say that the Trinities podcast gives me all I need when it comes to philosophical matters. You have a unique ability to simplify complex matters – for which I thank you!
    God Bless you
    John
